Basic Modules

All Basic-modules are included in the SNAG-View Basic version.

Task scheduler

Using the task scheduler, tasks such as clean-up work or backups can be planned and scheduled for one-off and regular implementation.

Scheduled tasks can displayed in a list, while an underlying log provides more detailed information about the implementation of the actions and any errors. A filter function facilitates readability.

SNAG-View is capable of notifying stakeholders of potential problems based on notification rules. These rules can be configured in a flexible manner. The administrator can therefore determine which problems trigger notifications, the manner in which this happens and who receives these notifications.

Depending on the installed modules e-mail, text message, OTRS and/or voice alerts are possible.

Users and rights

SNAG-View uses an inheritance system with different objects - this makes a very complex rights structure possible. Roles give administrators the ability to define simple authorisations, including the right to access SNAG-View functions, specific views and GUI elements.

Groups can be used to assign highly granular authorisations to users. The authorisation can thus be explicitly set for each SNAG-View object (host, service, map, business process, etc.). In addition, simple and object permissions can be modified individually for each user.

Password Tresor

With the help of the password vault, required access data such as user name and password for e.g. the NeDi API, databases (Oracle, MySQL, MSSQL,...) or also for Active Directory / LDAP can be stored securely within a token. User name and password are encrypted with AES 256. According to the current state of knowledge, it is not possible to decrypt this data with reasonable effort. This avoids security risks such as the use of passwords in plain text.nbsp] The tokens can be used as aliases when configuring SV objects. Sensitive data does not have to be stored directly in the object, but can be used with the help of a reference, without direct access to the actual object.

Business processes/Impact Analyser

Using this module, the sequence and dependency structure of a business process can be emulated with the help of the monitored objects and groups. In this way, it is possible to specifically check whether an important business process is executable, i.e. whether or not the resources needed for this process are currently working.

SNAG-view can represent the business processes either as a tree, a circular view (sun) or a block view (icicle).

The Impact Analyser additionally has a simulation mode; in this mode you can simulate how the failure of one or more affected elements would affect the overall process.

Revision log

The revision log saves all changes to the configuration of SNAG-View objects such as hosts, services or maps in a change history. If errors occur, the user can see who made what changes and when, and can identify and eliminate the source of the error.

Performance data

SNAG-View can collect performance data with the PerfGraph module using host and service checks. The data are is then displayed in intuitive graphs via the PerfGraph module. These graphs can be viewed in detail views of hosts/services, as well as in the performance data view. The performance data view makes it possible to group certain performance data from multiple objects.

Dynamic-Map Übersicht

Dynamic Map

With the help of the dynamic map it is possible to quickly and easily use prefabricated and configurable graphical elements to graphically portray the server landscape monitored in SNAG-View. It is therefore possible, for example, to create maps for a monitoring control centre which display the status of the landscape with live data.

In the Map Editor you can use the drag and drop principle for a simple approach to creating new maps, which you can then view in the Map Viewer. In the Map Viewer, a monitored object's details tab can be opened by double-clicking the object.

Optional Modules

All Optional-modules will expand the SNAG-View Basic version.

The SLA module allows SLAs to be stored and checked directly in SNAG View.

Several SLAs can be freely configured, e.g. gold, silver, bronze.

Compliance with the SLA is monitored by SNAG-View. Taking downtimes into account, it can be shown whether the SLA has been met. In addition, you can also enter the data for contractual penalties/penalties, which can be calculated automatically.

The Nagios add-on "Mod-Gearman" was used as a base for this plugin. It highly increases Nagios performance, by decoupling host and service checks from the Nagios core. The work load of these checks can be to distributed to different system on your local network (loadbalancing). With this feature, we are also able to provide you with the possibility to use distributed monitoring for remote checks of systems over the internet.

  • At the same time the plugin lets you relieve your SNAG-View system by also decoupling the plugin-execution from the Nagios core. The load is distributed evenly between workers which lessens the strain on your CPUs.
  • Easy configuration: When using distribution only one port needs to be open.
  • Flexibility: The number of workers can be increased or decreased while in production use.
  • Central configuration: Almost all configuration can be made in the visually appealing interface of SNAG-View.
  • Reliability (requirement: high-availability cluster): If you use at least two active workers per queue (active / active cluster), one worker can fail, without impairing the monitoring.

Dynamic Group Module

The module gives you the ability to create dynamic groups, whose members are allocated dynamically based on the filter conditions.  (Re)allocation of the group members is managed by a job in the task scheduler.

The "Members (service instances)" or "Members (hosts)" field is hidden. Instead the "Conditions" section appears with the filter definition tree. You can use this to define service/host mappings.

To ensure that the members of dynamic groups are calculated and updated, the 'Reallocate dynamic group members' job must be regularly scheduled in the task scheduler.

Hosts nach Standorten auf der Geomap

Geomap Module

Hosts, host groups, locations and maps can be displayed on a world map with live data with help from the geo map. To this end, only the geo-coordinates for the location of the host need to be set in the host configuration. Alternatively, the coordinates can be added via the geo map module interface. All objects marked with the tag are automatically represented as dots. The dot colour point reflects the status of the object.

For a simpler presentation, objects which are close together are grouped in clusters at greater zoom levels.

Jasper reporting

Using the interface for the Jasper report manager, you can quickly and easily configure and run reports in order to receive them as a PDF or XLS.

Location Map

Location Map

SNAG-View can depict the host configured in SNAG-View based on the location via the location map module. The locations can be mutually nested, and a location can be assigned to each host/host group.

Sound und Notificationsmodul

Sounds and notifications module

The Sounds and notifications module extends SNAG-View, adding a further notification channel. Sounds can be output for previously configured status changes.

In addition there is the option of notifying via pop-up windows.

SNAG-View Status Tray

SNAG-View Status Tray

The SNAG-View Status Tray is a widget application for the desktop which contains the most important system-critical information. It is used to provide a quick overview of existing and/or imminent problems.
Moreover, it forms a part of SNAG-View in the Problem Browser. Your SNAG-View servers are listed here, along with the states of hosts and services.

The states DOWN, UNREACHABLE, CRITICAL, WARNING, and UNKNOWN are reflected and it is possible to apply combined filters.

The SNAG-View Status Tray is available for Windows (32-bit/64-bit), Mac and Linux.
